The solstice is behind us by about 3 weeks now so light sunlight conditions have already started to shift a bit. The period they call here “white nights”—the days during the year when the daily periods of darkness are shortest—persists, though its height has passed. But it’s still light outside at 3 A.M., and the sun doesn’t set until quite late as compared to areas at lower latitudes such as the “lower 48” in the U.S. As an example, the photo above was taken a few minutes before 9 P.M. the other day. So at that hour the sun is still above the horizon and continues to illuminate the cityscape.
The weather this year, though a bit rainier than it was last year, is quite nice in terms of temperature. We’ve had one or two days here where the temperature was near or slightly in excess of 90. But on most other days temperatures have ranged from low sixties to low eighties. So it’s been pretty ideal for our tastes.
More interviews are on the way, so stay tuned for those.
